Mardelle "Mardie" Kay Byrnes

December 21, 1938October 31, 2019

Mardelle Kay Byrnes was born December 21, 1938 in O’Neill Nebraska and died of pancreatic cancer on October 31st, 2019 in Bedford, Texas at the age of 80.

Mardie grew up in O’Neill, Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1957. Shortly after, she headed for the “bright lights” of Omaha where she attended business school. It wasn’t long before she married, and had Deb and Zane. In 1980, she married the love of her life – Terry Byrnes. The two of them remained close until he died 2 years ago.

In 1972, Mardie moved to Burnsville, Minnesota. Prior to that, she lived in several places including Orlando FLA, St. Paul MN and West Des Moines IA. Last March, she moved to Texas in order to be closer to Zane. It’s O’Neill that will always have a special place in our hearts – over the years she and her family made countless road trips to the “Irish Capital of Nebraska.”

The bulk of Mardie’s work years were spent in customer service at Xerox. She also worked for Our Own Hardware. Once retired, she devoted herself to taking care of her mother.

One week before she died, Mardie told her kids that she would like to be remembered for her love of family, girlfriends, shoes & shopping!

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and Terry. She is survived by daughter Deb (John) Young, son Zane (Esperanza) Borg and her grandchildren who she considered her “pride and joy,” Heather (Robert) Hilliard, Dylan (Elizabeth) Gauker, Mariah Borg and Spencer Borg. She also leaves behind many dear friends.

Please join us in remembering Mardie on Sunday December 1, 2019 between 2-5pm. Service at 3pm.

I have lost a friend of 59 years who meant so much to me. I loved her jovial spirit and love of a corny joke and oh how she could laugh and ignite anplace with her smile. She was a kind generous lady and remained a dear friend with love and support. She was a classy lady. May her soul Rest In Peace
