Dan Eppinger, age 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 15, 2018 of congestive heart failure due to cardiac amyloidosis at Regional Hospice in Danbury with his loving wife, Dianne, by his side. Dan was born on February 14, 1939 in Vienna, Austria to Ernst and Ite (Hermann) Eppinger both deceased.
Dan emigrated to the United States as an infant and spent his early years in the Hartford area while his father completed his residency at Hartford Hospital. The family relocated to the Portland, Maine area where his father established his medical practice. He graduated from Deering High School in Portland in 1956 and received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Maine, Orono in 1960. He also received an M.S. in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Bridgeport in 1965 and a Sixth-Year Diploma in Professional Education in 1980. Dan worked as a math and german teacher and guidance counselor for 48 years, retiring in 2008 from his job as a guidance counselor at Brookfield High School where he spent 42 years. He also served on the Danbury Board of Education from 1979 to 1983. Dan loved music, especially jazz and classical, travel and photography. He and his fellow teacher, Jon Owens, spent many years photographing weddings on the weekends.
Dan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dianne (Lambert) of Danbury, his daughter Karen (Mark) of West Linn, OR, son Steven (Christine) of Roswell, GA and his grandchildren Brett and Lily.
Family will be accepting condolences on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 7:00 pm.
