Dominic Magliaro Sr.

Dominic Magliaro, Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather died on February 21, 2014 at Danbury Hospital at the age of 87 after bravely fighting a 25 year battle with heart disease. He was the loving husband of Clementina (Morlando) Magliaro.

Dominic was born on the feast of St. Anthony in Pratola Serra, Avellino, Italy. He was the son of Antonio and Alessandra (Galdo) Magliaro. Following his marriage to Clementina, he set out to make a new life for his family and arrived in America in 1949.

He settled in Danbury, Connecticut taking on several jobs including employment at the El Dorado Restaurant, owned by his aunt and uncle, Mary and Felipe Larriccia. He received training as a machinist at Henry Abbott Technical School. Dominic was employed as a machinist with the Amphenol Corporation for over 30 years until his retirement. Dominic was a parishioner of St. Peter Church, Danbury.

Dominic’s talents and interests were numerous and varied. He taught himself carpentry, mechanics, electrician skills, plumbing, masonry and design, which he used to build and maintain the family home. He always offered a helping hand and advice to those who needed it. He loved drawing, painting, music and cooking, and even shared his culinary skills and recipes with his grandchildren.

Dominic most enjoyed being with his family. He was a devoted husband for 66 years to his wife, Clementina. In addition to his wife, Dominic is survived by his son, Antonio (Sandro) Magliaro and his wife In Ok, his son, Gerard Magliaro and his wife, Sindi, his daughter, Marie (Magliaro) Jowdy and her husband, James, and his son-in-law, Charles Van Zanten. He also leaves behind his eight beloved grandchildren: Christopher, Eugene, Nicholas, Anna, Alicia, Adrienne, Joshua, and Jessica.

He was predeceased by his son, Dominic Magliaro Jr, and his daughter, Frances (Magliaro) Van Zanten. The family is so appreciative of the special care and friendship that he received from Dr. David Weinshel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at St. Peter Church, Danbury, with the Reverend Gregg Mecca, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. Education was very important to him. Dominic established a continuing scholarship at Danbury High School for prospective engineers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Dominic Magliaro Jr. Educational Scholarship Trust Fund, c/o Union Savings Bank, 226 Main Street, Danbury.
