

Lucas, Evelyn Winnifred (Johnson) (Crewe) – 83 of Halifax, passed away January 20, 2012 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Canso, she was the daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Lumsden) Burns of Canso, NS. Evelyn was a member of Lake Echo Fellowship Baptist Church, she was a very kind and giving person, having made many donations to charities over the years as well as taking many other children under her wing. Evelyn worked at the Dartmouth Bingo and was well known as Mrs. J. She also worked in the Food Industry most of her life managing cafeterias, Food kiosks and entrepreneur of her own businesses. When not working she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by sons Jim (Sharon), Tom, Rocky (Sally) and Rick all of Dartmouth; daughters Rose Alger, Guelph; Marion Fotheringham, Elmira, ON; Lynn Turner, Cole Harbour; Terry (Ian) Daykin, Digby Co.; Marilyn (Reg) Johnson Hinch, Kim Johnson, Tina (Ross) Johnson-Coffin, all of Eastern Passage; Candy (Steve) Lorch of Guelph. She is also survived by 39 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren , one great great-grandchild and three nephews Larry, Rick and Kevin Rogers. She was predeceased by her husband Lester Lucas, sister Marion Armsworthy and a brother Jimmy Burns. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 pm Tuesday January 24, with a memorial service to be held 11 am Wednesday January 25, all in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Pastor Frank Kohler officiating. Interment will take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Diabetes Association.
