Age 93, of Dartmouth. Died on July 31, 2020. Born in Dartmouth, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Freda (Jenkins) George. She was employed with the Dominion Store, Deluxe Dry Cleaners and Hermes Electronics where she kept in touch with her many friends. During World War II she worked at the Dartmouth Ship Yards. She was very active in tap dancing and danced her way in concert parties for Service Personnel. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary (Somme Branch) for over 40 years where she served as secretary; she also served at weddings, special occasions and visiting the hospitals. She established three tap dancing schools, Albro Lake, Halifax and Lower Sackville (0.50¢ per hour) for the young and old. Bingo was her passion, she was an avid bingo player at Masonic and Sackville Bingo Hall where she had many friends. The staff treated her with respect, laughter and spoiled her. (One of her friends told her that she would make a good grandmother, if she kept her mouth shut.) She is survived by her brother, Ted (Margaret), Victoria, BC; many nieces and nephews; three special nieces (like daughters), Heather, Mary and Melanie. Predeceased by husband, Frank; sister, Gladys; brothers, Ernest, Alexander “Shiner” and David. Visitation will be held in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth on Friday, August 7th from 11am-2pm, with burial to follow in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, Main St., Dartmouth. Donations may be made to the SPCA.
