Charles Russell Tubbs, 92, was born February 2, 1926, in rural Clinton County, IA, on a farm between Elwood and Delmar, IA. His parents were Clifton and Mary (Lane) Tubbs. Charles died Sunday, January 13, 2019, at Senior Star, Davenport, IA.
Charles married Marjorie Georgia Bentrott on June 30, 1945, in Wheatland, IA. Charles and Marjorie enjoyed celebrating their 73rd anniversary this past June.
Charles and Marjorie had three children, David (Janet Draley) Tubbs, of Eldridge, IA, John (Marta) Tubbs of Davenport, and Mark (Lori) Tubbs, of Carmichael, CA.
Charles had one brother, Edward Lane Tubbs, who predeceased him. Two daughters-in-law, Carolyn Kay (George) Tubbs and Jan Alayne (Coffman) Tubbs, also predeceased him. Surviving are his 3 sons, 3 grandchildren, Julie (Roger) Higbee, Ronda (Scott) Tubbs-Huston, and Elizabeth Tubbs, one great-grandson, Eli, two sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 18, from 5:00 to 7:00 in the evening, at Weerts Funeral Home, 3625 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport, IA. Funeral services will be held at Weerts on Saturday, January 19, at 1:00 in the afternoon. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, IA.
Charles grew up on the Tubbs farm south of Maquoketa, IA, and he farmed there until 1949 when he and Marjorie moved to Bettendorf to raise their family. Charles was an expert carpenter and general contractor, building hundreds of homes throughout the greater Davenport area. Charles was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, along with Marjorie, in 1948, in Des Moines, and in support of God’s Kingdom, he faithfully served Jehovah God for over 70 years.
