Eichhorn, Richard Eugene. “Dick” age 100 of Kettering passed away Tuesday February 18, 2020 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born Nov. 23, 1919 in Miami County, Ohio to his parents Agnes (Brinkman) and Henry Eichhorn. A loving husband, he was married to Gladys (Abbott) almost 65 years. They raised four children: Patricia (Donald) Rupert of Chicago, Sandra Hilt of Lexington, Kentucky, Judy (Lonnie) Abney of Bristol, Indiana, and Richard Eichhorn Jr. of Centerville. He was always eager to spend time with his family and was the devoted grandfather to 7 grandchildren: Kristin Rupert and Matthew (Katherine) Rupert, Jeremy Hilt and Zachary (Karlee) Hilt, Dawn (Jeremy) Cobb, Jonathan Abney, and Kyle (Kyla) Abney; and 9 great grandchildren: Cole, Emma, Cade, and Clayton Hilt; Ephraim, Mayah, and Asaph Cobb; and Eliyanah and Claire Abney. He also had many nieces and nephews who he stayed close with and enjoyed visiting during their regular pizza parties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, his grandson Jeremy, and wife Gladys.
Dick graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1947 and retired from General Motors after 39 years of service. He served as a pilot in the Naval Aircorp during WW II.
Dick and Gladys raised their children in Centerville before retiring to Florida where he was an avid golfer. He was recognized in Golf Digest for scoring three 2s and a hole-in-one during one round on the par 3 holes at Sugarmill Woods. And throughout his life, he remained an avid OSU Buckeye fan — never missing a football game.
The Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm Monday February 24, 2020 at the Tobias Funeral Home Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave at Rahn Road. Laura Nile, the Associate Pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Church, is officiating. He will be buried at David’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:30 am until 1 pm Monday at the funeral home.
