Watson, Richard “Dick”, age 79, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Dayton on October 11, 2019. Dick was born November 9, 1939, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Clara and Curtis Watson. He was one of seven children: Rita Watson (deceased), MaryLou Walker, Jan Zukowitz, Carole Focke (deceased), Jackie Mahle, and Sandi Horn. He was a graduate of Chaminade High School and worked at General Motors, retiring after 30 years. He also worked for Kroger's.
Dick enjoyed sports. He once said a big accomplishment in his life was making the basketball team at Chaminade. He coached boys basketball at St. Albert the Great School and baseball at Patterson Park Senior League for several years. He found great enjoyment in watching his daughter’s Dawn and Darla play volleyball. He never missed a football game when his daughter’s Diane and Denise performed with the high school drill team. He took advantage of every opportunity to follow his grandchildren on the soccer field, basketball court, football field, and tennis court. He was even the coach for his grandson’s basketball team. He was a loyal fan of The Ohio State football team and the Cincinnati Bengals. Dick and his wife Pat had a cottage at Indian Lake where they enjoyed boating and fishing. He loved sharing the cottage with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Pat. His children: Diane (Brian) Harris of Bellbrook, Denise Watson of Kettering, Dawn (Gary) Bakos of Bellbrook, Darla (Darrell) Breakfield of Fort Wayne, Indiana. His grandchildren: Kasey (Karl) Kordalis, Kellie (Adam) Weyrauch, Weston (Ashleigh) Bakos, Chelsee Breakfield, Evan Breakfield, and Thomas Watson. His great-grandchildren: Rina and Henry.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Albert the Great Church, 3033 Far Hills Avenue, on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends and family prior to the mass starting at 10:30 a.m. There will be a celebration of life following the funeral at Bellbrook Lions Grange Center, 2757 Wilmington-Dayton Road, Sugarcreek Township.
