BRANDENBURG , Dorothy Lee, “Dottie” (Vaniman), age 97 of Troy, formerly Dayton, passed away August 11, 2018. She was a 1939 graduate of Steele High School in Dayton. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Lt. Colonel Robert (Bob) E. Brandenburg; parents, Harvey and Edith Vaniman; Brother, Jack Vaniman; and sister in law, Phyllis Vaniman. She is survived by her two much loved sons, Robert E. (Bonnie) Brandenburg Jr. and Doug Brandenburg. She is also survived by her three dearly loved granddaughters, Dana Brandenburg, Robyn Brandenburg (James Lee), Michelle (Joseph) Hiegel, and great granddaughter, Nevaeh Hiegel, as well as her treasured nephew, nieces, and many friends.
Dorothy was greatly involved in her son’s activities growing up. She enjoyed participating in their school events and served as the school chaperone/volunteer/party chairman. She was involved in the boys numerous sports, scouting events, as well as their Sunday school. Later in life, she was involved in WPAFB officers wives club (O’ Wives), Women’s Bridge Club, Chairman of Dayton Air Reserves, Wives of Flying Shriners, Local Golf and Bowling leagues, and Charter Member of WWII National Museum. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling with Bob. She flew co-pilot, with Bob as Pilot, from Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport and St. Pete Airport in Florida, where they spent many winters at their condo. She also greatly enjoyed family summer vacations and boating at their Lake Cumberland Townhome as well as their family cottage at Indian Lake.The family wishes to thank the Story Point Senior Living and Heartland Hospice of Dayton for their loving care and sincere assistance. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Woodland Cemetery Mausoleum.
