Michael Raymond Hieber, age 57, passed away on May 29, 2018 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio after a brief illness. He was born on April 1, 1961 to Sandra Ann Haferman (Snyder) and the late William Ralph Hieber. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his step-father, Dean Haferman of Centerville, OH; son, Aaron Hieber, Tipp City, Ohio; sister Judith (Robert) Kullberg of Saline, MI, brother William R. (Pilar) Hieber, Jr. of Laguna Niguel, CA, half-sister Germaine Hieber, and half-brother Andrew Hieber; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Michael graduated from T. L. Handy High School in 1979. He received an associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technologies from Delta College in 1982, and a B.S. in Industrial Technology from Saginaw Valley State College in 1992. He worked for many years as a production manager in various firms in the Midwest and California, including Magna, Nisshinbo, and Lear. As manufacturing declined in the U.S., he returned to college to earn a B.S. in Nursing from Oakland Community College in 2012, and subsequently worked as an R.N. at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan and at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
Michael was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed. He enjoyed life and put his heart and soul into everything he did. He was outgoing, had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved his family and friends. Fascinated by science and technology, he constantly sought to improve manufacturing processes at work and built computers and electronic devices in his free time. As a nurse, he continued to innovate and received a patent for an improved hospital gown. From early childhood, Michael loved being outdoors, and he spent many days boating on Saginaw Bay or at the beach. A loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers, he was perhaps happiest of all at a ballgame with family and friends.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, OH 45342. Family will receive guests from 12-1. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Dawn Farm, 6633 Stony Creek Rd., Ypsilanti MI 48197 or online at https://www.dawnfarm.org/ .
