Barbara Ann Vinson, age 80, of Del City, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024. She was born in Enid, OK on November 5, 1943 to Charles and Nondious Chandler. She graduated from Choctaw High School. She married her husband, Carrol M. Vinson on October 5, 1979. Barbara worked for the Oklahoma State Tax Commission until her retirement in October 2009.
Not many people called her by her real name. She was known as Granny to most. Granny never did anything small. She loved giving the kids the best Christmas. Each kid got at least 20 gifts! Family would get together for every holiday. Granny was very proud of all of her grandkids. But Josh and Jared were Granny's whole world. Granny loved taking the boys fishing and shopping.
Granny enjoyed puzzles, listening to country music and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She taught them manners and how to always stay strong. She also loved playing slot games and word searches on her iPad. She didn't like to miss out on her free points. Granny was on a first name basis with the sonic carhops. She had to have a Coke Zero every day at happy hour!
She is preceded in death by her son, Danny Vinson; brother Eddie Chandler; sisters Lillie May Holybee and Helen Chandler; and grandson Robby Haines.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Carrol M. Vinson; two children, Robin Haines of Del City and David McGowen of Del City; brothers Bill Chandler (wife Rosalea) of Seminole, OK and Bobby G. Chandler (wife Debbie) of Okiaha, OK; sisters Rose Cook of Muskogee, OK, Lorene Woodard of OKC, and Fern Sallee (husband Bill) of Muskogee, OK; five grandchildren: Rinda Potter (husband Justin), Josie Robinson, and Jamie Alexander (husband Dusty); seven great-grandchildren: Josh Potter, Jared Potter, Gavin Haines, Brylee Haines, Marshal Haines, Tinley Haines, and Madilyn Robinson; numerous nieces and nephews; and her two cats, Sissy and Stubs.
A graveside service for Barbara will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 2301 E Indian Hills Rd, Norman, OK 73071.
