October 24, 1932 – March 13, 2018
Burton Axelrod, 85 of Delray Beach, Florida passed away on March 13, 2018 in Delray Beach. Burt is survived by his beloved wife Lydia; children Erica (Jeff) McIlroy, Jane (David) Nance, Phyllis (Steven) Ershowsky; Bonnie Wartstadt; Scott Axelrod; Steven (Sharron) Axelrod; Peter (Jennifer) Axelrod; cherished grandchildren Michael, Emily, Joey, Matt, Jack, Ashley, Peter, Brandon, Ethan, Kayla, Adam, Arielle, Austin, Corey, Carter and Brittney; adored great grandchildren Avigail, Rena, Aviva, Zahava, and Harper; dear brother Irwin (Susan) Axelrod, and much loved sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
An inventor, writer, plumber and innovator, Burt will be remembered for his quick sense of humor, spontaneity, and willingness to go above and beyond for his loved ones. No drive was too far, no damage too hard to fix, no problem too difficult to be solved if it involved family or friends. Hungry for Chinese food at 2 a.m.? No problem. Grandchild’s lost toy left in hotel room across the state? No problem. Need a place to live until you get on your feet? No worries. Burt would take care of it.
Road trips were never regarded as arduous - instead the journey was the adventure and Burt and Lydia traversed the country and explored every coast. They visited children and grandchildren in multiple states, rarely missing a graduation, wedding, birth, or other milestone.
Burt’s life was filled with many loved ones, and each will carry their own personal memories of how he touched their lives. He did not expect a great deal from others in the material sense, but he welcomed and embraced those who reached out to him to be part of his life.
We miss his presence, but Burt’s memory lives on with his beloved wife Lydia, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They tell his story, and they smile.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his memory can be made to Brandeis National Committee, P.O. Box Stop 132, Waltham, MA 02454-9110.
