Sara Schleider

December 14, 1938June 29, 2020

Sara Schleider, 81, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2020 in Delray Beach Florida. Sara was born on December 14, 1938 in the Bronx, NY to Milton and Betty Chimes. She attended the High School of Music & Art in NYC. She received her bachelor’s degree from the City College of New York and her master’s degree in Special Education from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. Sara spent her life dedicated to her work as a Habilitation Specialist for intellectually disabled children and adults working for the State of New York. Sara leaves behind her husband of sixty years, Sam. She was a devoted mother to Howard & Stephanie Schleider and Felice Vinarub & Al Wacht. Anyone who knew Sara would say her pride & joy were her grandchildren: Keri and Scott Vann, Michael Vinarub, Benjamin Schleider, and Emily Schleider and her fiancé, Liam Kerins. Her great granddaughter Alaina Vann never failed to put a huge smile on her face. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Paul Chimes. Sara lived a wonderful life. On any given day you could find her playing Mahjong or Canasta, reading a favorite novel, or socializing at the pool with friends. She loved music and was an exceptional piano player and enjoyed giving lessons and volunteering at the local hospital, playing the piano for hospital visitors. There will be a graveside service at the Bailey Memorial Gardens in North Lauderdale on Thursday July 2, 2020 at 11:15 AM. We are forever grateful to the Trustbridge Palliative care team who worked tirelessly to ensure Sara’s last days were comfortable and she knew she was loved. Any donations should be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://alz.org
