The day before Barbara died she told me Thank you for all that I have done and everything was going to be ok. Once again she was being her wonderful loving self comforting others. She had taken Imani in her loving arms for 20 years, to church every Sunday until she could no longer drive, taking care of Duke whenever I needed her to, cooking for me after surgeries and she was saying thank you to me. Barbara I just hope to love my grandchildren as you did me. Thank you for your unconditional love.

I've sat here trying to write something several times now. I lose my composure. My beautiful sister is part of my soul. Often times families become distant, busy with life. But Barbara and I continued growing closer and closer until her last day. What can you say about someone who you shared everything with, so gentle that just the sound of her voice was enough to calm and soothe, so much a part of who you are that you're not sure how to face the day knowing she is gone? My sister would want you to know that she is with God, that she is blessed and grateful, and that she wants every loved one to live life being in the moment; counting each new day a gift, loving your family, savoring your time here.

I find myself blessed to have grown up witnessing such a soul could exist. Aunty Barbara has always been an inspiration to me; her love and kindness will always be something I strive to be. She never passed judgment, only loved. She never gave up on people, only prayed. She is sincerely one of a kind, although, the world would benefit greatly if we could all be a little more like her!

For Barbara, thank you for the times you shared with me on earth; for being my friend. There are so many good memories. I smile every time I think of you. The trip we took to South Dakota was the best vacation I ever had. I will miss your kindness and love.

When I was little I would have sleep overs at Barbaras. We would watch reading raindow and I would brush her long hair. We would talk about animals and eat the delicious food she made. As I grew up we didn't see eachother as much but the few times we did spend together she would call me Shawnee like she did when I was young and I would feel that warmth again. I am glad I got to say I love you to her before she passed and I got to hear her say it to me.

I first met Barbara shortly after Michael & I got married in 1974. We exchanged Christmas cards throughout many years and only saw each other a handful of times. When Avery was diagnosed with MBC, Barbara reached out to me and continued to encourage and pray for us. Barbara was consistently checking on me to see how I was doing once Avery was gone, and now she has joined Ave and other loved ones in heaven. I am forever grateful for Barbara's loving concern, her prayers and for the sweet memories she shared with me. She was a very devoted godly woman.
