Lawrence Douglas Snell, age 64, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on November 24, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Susan M Jones and their daughter, Jessica L Snell, age 29. He was preceded in death by their son, Douglas A. Snell (d. 2017).
Lawrence (Larry) was born in Schenectady, NY to Robert P. Snell and Dolores (Benedict) Snell. He attended Syracuse University, where he met his wife Susan. They moved to Galveston, TX where Larry earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology. The couple later moved to Bethesda, MD for postdoctoral positions and finally to the Denver area.
As a child, Larry excelled in school, earning academic honors and accolades from elementary school onward. His father nicknamed him “Smiley” because he was always smiling, which might surprise those who knew the “serious” Larry as an adult. He attended Syracuse University as an undergraduate and graduate student, where he pursued a career in biomedical research. Larry was the consummate scientist, and his entire career was spent performing scientific research. He had a phenomenal memory for all facts and events and served as a reference for friends and family before Google was invented. His free time was spent with his family, on the golf course or doing handyman projects around the house.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents. In addition to his wife Susan and daughter Jessica, Larry is survived by his brothers, Mark Snell; Stephen (Bernadette) Snell and family, as well as his favorite sister Sharon (Jim) Yawman and family.
Larry was a wonderful, loving husband and father and he will be forever missed. The family will have a private memorial service in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please contribute to your favorite charity.
