Jean A. Swantek
July 16, 1921 – June 29, 2020
Jean A. Swantek, age 98, of Dexter, Michigan died on Monday June 29, 2020. Jean, the youngest of the Adelman sisters was born on July 16, 1921 in Chesaning, Michigan to Albert and Mollie Adelman. Jean earned an Associate’s Degree from Cleary College in business and bookkeeping. One of her first jobs was at WPAG Radio Station in Ann Arbor where she met Jerry Swantek. He was the radio tower climber/engineer and she was the bookkeeper. Her boss thought they would be a good match so he wrote Jean's phone number on the back of Jerry’s check. Their first date was to Boblo Island. They were married on September 11, 1948 at St. Mary's Student Chapel in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Together they built their house by hand, literally brick by brick, dug and poured the foundations and made their house a loving home on Glacier Way in Ann Arbor Township where they lived for over 40 years. Her biggest passion was helping her family and friends and doing whatever she could do to make others happy. She was the best Cheese stick maker in the world. She loved to travel both the U.S. and abroad. Jean loved music and was a very talented piano player. She loved to sew and often made many of her own clothes. Following Jerry's death, Jean moved to Dexter in 1998 and became a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she often helped in the office and attended the 50 + luncheons with her friends. Jean had a passion for gardening and in her 80's, she terraced her own back yard in Dexter, placing all the heavy stone slabs and plants herself. Deeply loved by her family, Jean was the best Mom anyone could have asked for. Jean was preceded in death by her husband; Jerry John Swantek, her parents; Mollie and Albert V. “Bert” Adelman and sisters; Margaret Grillot and Sister Adrienne Adelman, OP "Ruth". Left to cherish Jean's memory her, son; J. John Swantek, daughter; Jane Rogers and her husband Joseph, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Jessica Jean Rogers, Andrew Swantek, wife Kate and daughter Olivia Jean Swantek, Jon Swantek and daughter Chloe Swantek, Michael Swantek, and Ben Swantek, niece; Paula Grillot, nephews; Michael Grillot and Ron Swantek. The family will receive friends at St. Joseph Catholic Village Church in Dexter on July 14, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow at the church Parish Center. Jean loved flying with her husband Jerry, a flight instructor, and it is believed that on June 29, 2020 when she drew her last breath here on earth Jerry was there to get her. Janie boarded her horse at our place on Dixboro Rd. In Ann Arbor & she was too young to drive at the time so her Dad or Mom would drive her to our place & her Mom, .Jean was one of the nicest & sweetest persons that I have ever met. She was always smiling & loved to watch Janie ride her horse. You could just tell how proud she was of her daughter. I know that she will be missed by many people. We are sad, because we will miss her, but happy for her, because she is with the Lord, her husband & many loved ones in Heaven. I was so sorry to hear of her passing. Praying for all of you!

Each day is a gift and I thank God for the times that I and my family were able to share with Ms. Swantek. She was always a positive influence to me and my family. I will remember her everytime I make her wonderful Cashew Drop cookies.
Love and prayers for the family.

I had great memories with the Swantek family. Jean was amazing she was always doing something around the house and garden. I loved going up north to travers city to there cabin. She will be missed I saw how the dementia was taking her down she never deserved that disease. But I get comfort in knowing she is in a much better place. Love this whole family I am truly blessed to have grown up since I was five years old knowing Jean. RIP Jean
