He was born on June 29, 1927 in Duluth, MN to Gustav and Selma Benson. Clifford had been a resident of Duluth all his life and served in the Army Air Force in WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 71 in West Duluth. Clifford retired as a salesperson from Dey Appliances and enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with his family and going to the cabin in the summers. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life and he always melted when they asked him to read a book and sit on his lap. He will be remembered and loved always! Rest in peace.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Melvin Benson.
Clifford is survived by wife, Joyce of 62 years; daughters, Paige (Robert) Riewe of New Hope, MN, Pamela Benson of Maple Grove, MN. and Paula (Tom) Shaw of Glendale, AZ.; sister Luella (Clark) Howe of Coon Rapids, MN; 5 grandchildren, David Riewe, Brett (Jen) Riewe, Ty (Jen) Severson, Jamie (Jeff) Burton, Tomie Shaw and 3 step-grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and one on the way in addition to 5 step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Hillside United Methodist Church 1801 Piedmont Ave. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oneota Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation.
