She was born on Friday, June 25, 1926, in Harnett County, NC to the late John Henry Gregory and Poliner Homes Gregory. Eloise’s late father was a veteran of the Spanish-American War.
Her husband James Lee Lockamy of 66 years preceded her in death. Now they are together forever in Heaven.
Two sisters, Lena Gregory Tripp and Alliene Gregory; three brothers Marvin Gregory, Odell Gregory, and Johnny Gregory also preceded her in death.
She was the last of her five siblings to pass away.
Eloise is survived by her loving daughter, Bobbie “Honey” Sue Smith, and husband Larry Odell Smith; her loving, twin sons, James Mitchell Lockamy and Jerry Martin Lockamy; two special, grandsons, Kenneth “Little Ken” Earl Byrd, Jr., and James Robert “Pee-Boo” Smith, and wife Macy Lynn Smith; and her special fur baby “Rambo” who never left her side.
Honey, Little Ken, and “Pee-Boo, were special nicknames given and said by her.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a special mother-in-law to her son-in-law Larry Odell Smith. She was always there whenever you needed her.
“Foxy” was a special nickname only to her late husband, and too many others: “Weasel”.
Eloise loved working outside. She took pride in her yard noticeable by everyone. She made certain a branch, or pine comb never remained in her yard long.
Her passion for flowers and trees was evident. Countless hours Eloise and her late Husband James devoted countless hours caring for their own pecan trees and grapevines. Picking pecans and grapes were priceless moments in their life. Time sitting at the table with James shelling pecans sharing with family, and friends was special to them both.
“Honey” was the special nickname given to Bobbie by her mother.
Eloise taught her daughter Bobbie all about growing flowers and trees. Bobbie always dreamed of having a Cabbage Patch Kid girl doll. Christmas of 1997, her mother made her dream come true. Never taking it out of the box Bobbie will have that special memory forever. Returning that love to her mother, Bobbie surprised her with a doll with a bonnet and pigtails. Eloise named her “Honey Sue”.
The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.
Eloise’s, legacy will carry on forever in hearts of those left behind.
