Keith M. Stolzenburg

“CPA, MBA, and all-around good guy.” The quickest way to sum up who Keith Stolzenburg was just that – the line he used frequently to describe himself. But there was so much to the husband, the father, the son, the brother, the friend, the accountant, the community advocate, the fitness enthusiast, and the immeasurably kind man that has left so many grieving the loss of one of the best people we all knew.

Keith’s resume speaks for itself. He began his career at PwC in 1981 after graduating from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a B.S. and then an MBA, and progressively worked his way up the ranks at PwC. He retired as the managing partner of the Buffalo PwC office after a 36-year career, earning countless accolades and immense respect along the way. In retirement – or what Keith liked to call his “redeployment” – he was so proud to be a professor in the Accounting Department at the University at Buffalo, and to serve on the Boards of Directors of Farm Credit East and Independent Health.

He was incredibly generous with his time and talents in the community, serving as chair of the board of Shea’s Performing Arts Center, chair of the board of the Darwin Martin House Restoration Corporation, 2018 and 2019 campaign chair for the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, board member and treasurer for the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, Audit Committee member of the University at Buffalo Foundation, treasurer of the board of Trocaire College, board member of Artpark, YMCA of Buffalo, and the WNY MS Society.

We will miss his smile that brightened a room and his sense of humor that made everyone else want to laugh along with him. We will miss his calm demeanor, always weighing the options and making the most ethical, logical choice in work and in life. We will miss the banana and the protein bars he used to take out between meals because his metabolism was faster than seemed humanly possible. We will miss the way he connected with all types of souls, looking at them, not through them. We will miss watching him love Rosanne so dearly, witnessing the team they made with love, strength and partnership that epitomized what a marriage should be. We will miss the love and pride he showed for his kids that knew no bounds. We will miss his humility through continued, incredible professional success. We will miss his goofy one-liners, his sometimes absentmindedness, his ability to make one beer last three hours, his innate ability to connect with kids, his love of fun. We will miss his example to follow, and in any situation, will think about what Keith Stolzenburg would do.

If you knew Keith, you knew where he stood and how much he cared for you in this life and beyond. He left nothing to be resolved, and left a network of friends, of colleagues, and of family who will carry his memory with them for the rest of their lives.

An all-around good guy is how he’ll always be remembered. And what a legacy that is.
