Albert Lloyd Phillips, 82, longtime resident of East Hartford, passed away on Oct. 6, 2013. Albert was the loving husband of the late Anne (Greene) Phillips. Al was born on Nov 30, 1930, in Hartford, a son of the later Albert J. and Marie Goba (Phillips) Smith.
Al proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning home, he was employed by the Town of East Hartford, Streets Division and Parks & Recreation Dept. He also served as Vice President for his brother-in-law William Atkins, used car dealership Atkins.
Al was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, leaving a legacy of strong work ethic and family values. He will be dearly missed by his family; daughter Diane Choquette of Andover, son Alan Phillips and his wife Karen of East Windsor, daughter Debra Phillips of East Hartford with whom he lived, grandson Alan Jr. and his wife Jarlyn, grandson Vincent Sheehan and his wife Joann, granddaughter Stephanie Lisenko and her husband Stephen, grandson Michael Phillips, granddaughter Tricia Ann Phillips, and grandson Kyle Choquette. He will also be missed by his brother Richard Phillips and his wife Sandra of Manchester, half sister Dorothy Zionts, several nieces and nephews, and dear lifelong friend Richard Trinks with whom he shared many memories.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Al is predeceased by his grandson Zak Choquette.
Funeral services will begin Wednesday, Oct 9th at 9:30am at Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave, East Hartford, CT 06108, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hillside cemetery, East Hartford. Calling hours will be TODAY, Tuesday Oct 8th from 4-7pm at the funeral home.
