Age 92, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013. Sam attended Michigan State College, served in World War II, and returned home to run the family business, State Beverage Company/DeRose Distributing from 1939-1990. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pasqualina; siblings, Frank, Edith, Mike, Jane and her husband Al; and daughter-in-law, Patti. Sam was married to the love of his life, Janet DeRose (Varano) for 49 years until her passing in 1997. Surviving are his siblings, Mary, Virginia, Paul (Ann), and sister-in-law, Pat. Sam was a man who loved his family. He is also survived by his two children, Paula Jane (Jerry) and Guy Samuel; six grandchildren, Lisa (Jeremy), Michael (Melanie), Samantha, Matthew (Rachel), Kris, and Alex; and five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Ella, Jackson, Patricia, and Lincoln. He was a hard-working man who devoted his time to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family will receive visitors on Thursday, April 4 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing with the Rosary from 7:00 – 7:20 p.m. His life will be remembered and celebrated Friday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing with the Rev. Mark Inglot officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions can be made in Sam’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 310 N.
