Jesse E. Carr, 95, of Chattanooga passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013. He was a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church. Jesse was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served 33 months in Iran with the Railroad Battalion. He was retired as a swithchman from Southern Railway and had been in labor relations with their union. Jesse was a member of the Chattanooga Lodge #199 F&AM for over 70 years, the Order of the Eastern Star and Southern Railway Retirees.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Truman Carr, Toby Carr and J. B. Carr and a sister, Fannie Ruth Liner.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Maxine Carr; two half-sisters, Lillian Matthews of Darby, PA and Rose Lyle of Cleveland, TN; one half-sister and spouse Patsy and Charles Burger of Calhoun, TN; one half-brother, Billy “Jake” Carr of Calhoun, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Saturday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in the Chapel of Devotion with Dr. Charles Neal and Dr. David Harr officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Centenary United Methodist Church 419 McCallie Avenue.
