
Kelly Jean McDonald Myers, 72, was born in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950 while her father was stationed at the Naval Base there.The US Navy then took the family to North Carolina where her sister, Kerry was born in 1952. Kelly’s family moved across the country many times. From San
Francisco to Hawaii to Washington State, back to Corpus Christi where her dad ended his Naval career in 1960 and moved the family to OKC to work at F.A.A..
Kelly began ballet lessons in 1961 and continued through her high school graduation. She also began her love affair with Theater and was such an amazing actor / dancer she earned a full scholarship to UCO in 1968. During the 4 years she was there she starred in many productions. From there she attended the University of Virginia for grad school also on a full scholarship.Throughout her years there she produced, directed and starred in countless productions. Upon graduation she returned to OKC where she began teaching English and Drama at John Marshall High School. She was adored by her students who hung on her every word. She was one of those teachers who impacted her students' lives. Kelly also was involved in productions at Jewel Box Theater so she could exercise her passion for the stage.
Kelly met the love of her life, Scott, in 1981 when he interviewed her for a directors position. Of course she got the job and the romance began. In 1982 they were married on stage at the Oklahoma Theater Center during a production of epic proportions. In 1984 their amazing daughter, Jennifer, was born and their family was complete.
In 1987 the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, Scott’s hometown. Kelly began teaching at Shaker Heights High School where she motivated students for 14 years. After Jennifer went to college, it was time to make a big change. Kelly and Scott moved to California where they pursued music and theater. During the 10 years there Kelly rediscovered the joy of dance when she joined a Middle Eastern Dance Company. Ready for another change, Kelly and Scott returned to Oklahoma where she and her sister, Kerry, had a wonderful 10 years of closeness and love.
Kelly is survived by her husband of 41 years, Scott, her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Mike Smuland of Maryland and two precious grandchildren, Braden Smuland, 7 years old and Coraline Smuland, 4 years old. Also her sister and brother-in-law, Kerry and Bob McClure, Nieces Shannon Booher and Megan Seefeld and Nephew Ryan McClure and their families.
Kelly will be remembered for the amazing, loving woman she was, who was adored by those who knew her.
A visitation for Kelly will be held Friday, April 14, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
