On Wednesday November 18th, 2020, Mr. Albert Hendrikus Oostendorp of Edmonton, Alberta passed away peacefully at the age of 79 at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital after a courageous battle with a progressive lung disease.
Albert was born on May 10, 1941 in Eindhoven, Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1952 at the age of 11 settling in to Batawa, Ontario. He spent many years in Ottawa, Ontario where he graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Commerce and met his wife Rita. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rita (Beaulieu), his children Eric Anthony (Tony) and Michael Rene; his two grandsons Tyler and Wyatt, and his sister Hettie Sullivan. He was predeceased by his parents Antonius (Tom) and Alberta (Haak).
Albert proudly dedicated 26 years of his life as a public servant to the Government of Canada, primarily working with First Nations in the Atlantic provinces and Alberta. Upon retirement he dedicated almost 20 years supporting Alberta First Nations communities in a variety of roles. His selflessness and dedication to First Nations was only eclipsed by his love and support for his wife, sons, and grandsons.
The family would like to thank relatives, friends, and his many colleagues for their outpouring of support and well wishes. We also would like to thank the staff of Unit 43 at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital for the care they provided for Albert in his last days.
