Forever in our hearts…
Dennis Gene Betscher, the only child of Evelyn Ruth (Diesel) Betscher and Eugene (Gene) Earl Betscher, was born on Tuesday, February 13, 1945 at Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
At the time Denny was born, the family owned and operated a chicken ranch on Valley View in the Granite Hills area, and in the 1950's they relocated the ranch to the corner of Bradley and Magnolia. In the 1960’s Denny’s dad sold the El Cajon property and he and a friend merged their businesses and relocated to Alpine, where Denny got his introduction to agricultural management (aka Chicken Rancher, and his nickname, “Eggman”) He graduated in 1963 from El Cajon Valley High School, and in the class of 1967 from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business Management. Denny was the Assistant Manager at B & H Farms for several years before starting his own egg ranch in Lakeside.
Denny’s passion was for racing. He especially loved #3, Dale Earnhardt of the NASCAR circuit, and off-road racing in Baja, in which he was SCORE’s 1975 Class Two Points Champion. He would have been SCORE’s overall points champion had he finished just one position better in the 1975 Baja 1000. He was one of the original Baja Warriors and we all loved hearing his stories and learning about the Baja that he loved.
Denny’s outspoken love of the Lord, his permanent smile, great humor, contagious energy, and positive attitude will be missed. He passed away on the morning of June 23rd, after a long and difficult battle with cancer. Today Denny is at home in Heaven.
Denny was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Marie Betscher, and is survived by Jo Ann (Boston) Betscher, his wife of 30 years, his daughters, Kim Hamilton (Aaron), and Nikole Klink (Mike); two grandsons, Ryan and Ty Hamilton, plus many other family and friends across the country.
A memorial service is planned for July 13, 2018, at 10:00 am, at First Baptist Church of El Cajon, 190 East Douglas Avenue, El Cajon. A brief graveside service will be held on June 29, at 11:00 am, at Singing Hills Memorial Park, 2800 Dehesa Road, El Cajon.
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested donations be made in his name, to the First Baptist Church of El Cajon, 190 East Douglas Avenue, El Cajon 92020. This is the church he attended all of his life, and where he accepted the Lord as his savior.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Revelation 21:4 (NIV)
