Sent to Margie Butler on Facebook:

Today I heard about your mother's death after LaReine saw Tony's post on Facebook.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all the extended Butler family.

To me, your mom was my Aunt Esther.

I recall a visit to you in CA after my high school graduation (1970) - my first big plane trip from Minnesota. You and Tony were home then. I was helping to do dishes, and picked up a jar on the counter to wash it. Your mom said "oh don't open that, there is a black widow spider in it. See - look at the red hour glass on its underside..." Ever the teacher, Esther was daughter, mother, wife... many things to many people.

I recall good times at Fishtrap lake when the Butler family drove such a long way to MN...we had some great vacations together as kids, and later you even came and did a music show during the big reunion. I recall the Butler families filling the cabin with instruments and song, while it rained buckets outside.

In recent years I mostly heard from Esther thru her Christmas letters. I read them on the phone to my siblings to share the updates she wrote of all you cousins. Esther was so proud of each and every one of her family and loved you all so much.

Amid the sadness of her death, it is time to count the many blessings Esther gave to the many she touched.

Aunt Esther brought joy to so many. I have both childhood and adult memories of her. The time Pete and I drove to California and stopped in for a few hours. She and Uncle Bill convinced us to stay for days. Fishtrap Lake was the sight of family reunions and we enjoyed visiting in Staples.
She was always concerned about healthy eating and it paid off with a long and well remembered life.
Esther was a great mom. My cousins were allowed to play their own tunes, both literally and figuratively.
Her faith and family were her treasures.
