Former Fremonter Edward Held, 87, died peacefully Sunday evening at his home in El Paso, TX.
He was born in Fremont, OH to Theodore (Dorrie) and Marie (Reinbolt) and married Mary Durbin who died in March 1994.
Ed joined the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. In the army he worked as a radar technician on the Nike Hercules missile system for the U.S. Army. He was part of the team setting up radar sites in the Everglades during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He then went to El Paso, TX to support the Foreign Military Sales for the mission system. He was an avid ham radio operator.
Surviving are his children Marie Held of Huntsville, AL, Frederick (Nancy) of Clayton, NC, Judith (Jimmy) Stines of Asheville, NC, Jody Held (Robert) of Oxford, FL, Roger (MiSuk) of Monroe, WA, and Gerald (Jennie) of El Paso, TX; 11 grandchildren; Kari, Ariel, Sandra, Christina, Julia, Kevon, Heather, James, Michele, Jacquelin, Caroline and 4 great-grandchildren; Lily, Brayden, Mason, John), brother Donald (Barbara) Held of Fremont, OH. His brother Theodore and sisters Rose Swedersky and Gloria Picciuto preceded him in death.
Mr. Held will be buried at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Fremont, Ohio next to his wife, Mary.
