Gene Baker passed away on March 26, 2018 at the age of 90. He was born June 14, 1927 to Ralph and Agnes Cantrill Baker in El Paso, Texas. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Ralph Baker, his first wife of four years, Frances Divine, his second wife of 47 years, Rachel Pavia, and by his third wife of 15 years, Lilla Goggin. He graduated from Crockett Grade School, Austin High School and attended Texas College of Mines for one semester, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1945. At the end of his enlistment, he returned to Texas Western College and earned his BA degree while working part time with his father in the family glass business. Upon graduating, he was recalled by the Navy and served another hitch during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Baker Glass, where he spent many years helping to produce stained glass windows for St. Clements, St. Albans, Asbury Methodist, First Baptist as well as many other buildings in the El Paso Southwest. He was president of the company for many years, before retiring from in 1992.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and gardener, and served several years in various capacities with the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by his brother, Neil and Family, his two sons, Robert and wife Leslie, Jeff and wife Barbara, and his two daughters, Joslyn, Nancy and her husband Brad Alexander, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday April 6, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Memory Gardens of the Valley on McNutt Road.
