Lewis Dayton Galloway
September 22, 1924 – January 19, 2022
Lewis Dayton Galloway, 97, passed away in the early morning hours on January 19, 2022. He was born in Rutherfordton, N.C. on September 22, 1924 to James W. and Martha E. (White) Galloway. He was a graduate of Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico (1949) with a B.S. degree. Lewis served as a Naval officer, during WWII, aboard LST 997 in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was very proud of his active duty, from 1943 - 1946. He then served in the Naval Reserves until 1958. On September 2, 1948, Lewis married M. Jacquelyn Dealy, the love of his life, after having dated for almost 7 years. They had a strong and happy marriage and created a loving home for their three daughters: Debbie, Diana, and Donna. Lew spent three years working for a unit of the Mobile Oil Company before completing 34 years of employment with El Paso Natural Gas Company in Farmington, NM and El Paso, TX (retiring in 1985). Although he was an engineer, working in the oil and gas industry, Lewis was always very involved in his church and community. In the early 1950s, while working in Farmington, NM Lew noticed that there was limited banking available for residents so he researched how to establish a credit union for El Paso Natural Gas Company employees. He, along with a few co-workers set up the Animas Credit Union, working out of a cigar box in a desk drawer. Animas Credit Union is now a well-known banking institution in that area. He was incredibly resourceful, giving, and loved his family, church, and country. Throughout the years, Lewis was willing to help those in need; offering a helping hand wherever he could. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf (into his late 80s), reading, traveling, having dinner and playing cards with family and friends. Preceding Lewis in death are his wife of 61 years, M. Jacquelyn Galloway; his parents; James W. and Martha E. Galloway; his brother, Dr. James Galloway; sister-in-law, Alice Pedersen Galloway; and sister, Martha Jean Galloway Nichols. Lewis is survived by his daughters, Debbie Moczygemba (Ron), Diana Saab (Ed), and Donna Young. He had 4 grandchildren: Amber Young, Lindsay Johnson, Lance Burnside, and Lauren Saab. He also is survived by 7 great-grandchildren and three nephews. A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2022. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of a donation to Three Oaks Hospice El Paso, in memory of Lewis D. Galloway.See more See Less
