Henry “Hank” Neidert passed away on October 13. He had just recently enjoyed celebrated his 91st birthday with many of his family in attendance. Hank was born in 1927 in Sharon Center, Ohio. He was the first born son of Henry Neidert Sr, who immigrated from Austria-Hungry and landed in Ellis Island to start his life in the new world of America. Hank fully embraced life as an American and while growing up in Akron area, he became a baseball player of some note. He played catcher in the minor league farm teams and was later offered a tryout with the New York Yankees. He decided instead to return home and was soon serving his country in the US Navy where he served with distinction and was honorably discharged. He met his future wife, Nancy Kompart, at a dance and soon convinced her to give him swimming lessons. Hank was already an accomplished swimmer at the time. Their love blossomed and they were joyfully married for over 50 years until her passing in 2006. The family rejoices that he has joined Nancy in heaven. They raised 4 children as Hank worked as a superintendent on large commercial buildings in and around the Akron area, he also built many residential homes. They retired in the early 1980’s to Snead Island, Florida and soon were fishing, traveling and enjoying their grandchildren. Hank was well known for his love of Emerson Point Preserve and park. He rode his bike and later his little red scooter out to the point twice daily and looked forward to seeing his friends along the route. Hank is survived by his son, Norman (Robin) Neidert; daughters, Gloria Steingberg and Gail (Ron) Travis and Sandy (Spurgeon) Smith and his beloved sister - in-law Jeanette Cluff. Additionally he is survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. There will be private family only service and the family is requesting no flowers. Donations may be made in his name to any local Hospice.
