Doris Mae Giannini, 81, passed away January 8th, 2021, at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas. While all her loved ones could not be at her side, they were surrounding her with prayers and love to bring her peace.
Doris "DoDo, Nama, Gram" was born December 11,1939, in Jordan, Minnesota, to Ed and Adeline Hopster. She was one of six children.
Doris was happily married to her husband Michael Joseph Giannini for over 32 years. She had three children, Gary Reese, Maureen (Reese) Valles and Michael Reese.
Being surrounded by her family and those dear to her was DoDo’s greatest joy, especially anytime spent with her beloved grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for friends and family, particularly a delicious Sunday night Italian dinner. Discovering a hidden treasure during her Saturday morning garage sale adventures would bring her joy that would make her day. Fresh roses were her favorite, and she knew just how to bring a failing orchid back to life. She loved her Wheel of Fortune and like her sisters, talked right to the TV while it was on. Do we think she and Patti are in heaven right now talking to the TV over a plate of Grandma Giannini’s gravy and meatballs? Yaya, we surely do.
DoDo filled every room she entered with a loving energy, an energy she passed on to her loved ones to carry on.
She is survived by her three children Gary, Maureen, Michael and daughter-in-law Leah; five grandchildren Christopher (wife Andrea), Molly (husband Kevin), Victoria, Madelyn Mae and Kai Noa; her sister, Mary Jane Papenhausen (husband Bill), her brother, Richard Hopster (wife Judy); and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Michael), parents (Ed and Adeline), and two brothers (Don and Dennis Hopster) and her sister (Patricia Lego).
Family, friends and others whose lives Dodo touched will be notified about a Celebration of Life, once we are able to have one.
