George Arthur Faist (92) formerly of Spring Valley, NY and recently of Englewood, FL, passed away at home on September 25, 2023. George was married to his high school sweetheart Dolores Zavatone Faist for 61 years. (Dolores predeceased him in 2012.) George was a U.S. Army Veteran having served on Guam during the Korean Conflict. George was a carpenter by trade, becoming a successful home builder and commercial real estate developer, owning several construction companies in Rockland County, NY. George served as President of both the JayCees and Rotary International Service Clubs in Spring Valley, NY and was an honorary life member of the Sunshine Rotary Club in Englewood, FL. George was also involved in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a Scoutmaster and earning the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. George was also an FAA-licensed private pilot, avid golfer, recreational fisherman, and along with Dolores, a world traveler. The only thing he loved more than globetrotting was his extended family and many friends. George and Dolores were also philanthropists, supporting many individuals and charities during their long lives.
“Papa” (as he was known to all in his later years) is survived by his daughter and caregiver Keri Sharrow and husband Timothy Sharrow, his son Thomas Faist and wife Tammy Faist, his grandchildren Gregory Faist, Abigail Carroll, Genevieve Faist, Benjamin Faist and Kristen Vergine, and great-grandchild Charley Miles.
A Celebration of Life for George will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 12-3 p.m. @ Magnolia’s-On-The-Bay on Manasota Key, Englewood, FL.
