Betty “B.J.” (Hoffer) Caldemeyer, 90, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021, at River Pointe Health Campus. She was born on October 28, 1930 in Blanchester, OH to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Cunningham) Hoffer.
B.J. graduated from Tipton High School where she was a cheerleader for the Tipton Blue Devils. After graduation, she attended Indiana University where she met Lloyd O. Caldemeyer and one of the greatest love stories began. B.J. was a member of Tri Delta Sorority.
She worked as an interior designer for Ethan Allen and Kittles and later was the HR and Bookkeeper for her husband Lloyd at Lezure Chair. B.J. was a member of Bethel UCC and served on the altar committee. She was involved with the Junior League of Evansville, Tri Kappa, Evansville Museum, Evansville Philharmonic, The Garden Club of Evansville, Bridge Club and Cotillion Dance of Evansville.
B.J. was a wonderful cook. She inspired all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to love the many facets of her vast culinary skills. She enjoyed hand painting furniture, fishing, flower arranging and gardening. She was a den mother, brownie and Girl Scout leader and active in all for children’s PTAs. Several of her grandsons referred to her as the “Betty White” of their family because B.J. was a happy, cute blonde with a silly and magnetic personality.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Austin Caldemeyer; and a sister, Joan Mohler.
B.J. is survived by her husband of 69 years, Lloyd O. Caldemeyer; son, Lloyd J. Caldemeyer of Cordova, TN; daughters, Lynne Finney (Jim Knauff) and Beth Zirkelbach (Dennis Perrey) both of Evansville; grandsons, Ryan M. Finney (Jessica) of Evansville, Dalton K. Finney of Chicago, IL, Warren Zirkelbach (Rae) of Evansville, and Clayton Zirklebach of Newburgh, IN; and great grandchildren, Lila Mae Finney and Barrett Andrew Zirkelbach.
Due to COVID 19, a graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.
