

Charles Edward (Ed) Marlin passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 at his home. He was born on October 28, 1925 to Charles Emmett Marlin and Corinne Bryant Marlin in Evansville (Howell), Indiana. He was a graduate of F.J. Reitz High School, Class of 1943, and served two years in the cavalry in World War II. Mr. Marlin was a graduate of Oakland City University, Indiana State University, and he did post graduate work at the American University, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Marlin was employed for 36 years by the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp., serving 18 years as a business teacher and business dept. head at Reitz High School; then as city supervisor for business education, marketing, and radio station WPSR from 1963 until 1987, the year he retired. Mr. Marlin was also adjunct professor in Business Administration and Office Education for 30 years at the University of Evansville, and one year in Vocational Business Education at the University of Southern Indiana.
Mr. Marlin was a member of First Avenue Presbyterian Church for more than 70 years, serving the offices of Elder, Deacon, and Trustee. He was also a Sunday School Teacher, member of the choir, Clerk of Session, and Secretary of the Trustee Board and Finance Committee.
Mr. Marlin served as Moderator of Vincennes Presbytery, Co-chairman of the Organizing Commission which established the Presbytery of Ohio Valley in 1972, a Trustee of OVP, and President of the Indiana Synod of Presbyterian Men. He also served as Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and President of the Presbyterian Men’s Council of ST. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, North Port, FL, where he made his winter home from 1987 to 2008.
Mr. Marlin served as Chairman of the Indiana Advisory Council for Business Education from 1978 to 1987. He also served as President of the following professional organizations: Indiana vocational Association, Administrative Management Society, Indiana Business Education Association, and the National Association of Supervisors of Business Education.
Mr. Marlin also served on the board of the Evansville Council of Churches, and as Director of the Downtown Kiwanis club of Evansville, which honored him with its “Layman of the Year” award. He also served several years as Chairman of the Allocations Committee of the United Way of Southwestern Indiana, which recognized his service with the United Way “Gold Award” in 1983, and the “Distinguished Service Award” in 1984.
Mr. Marlin was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, of 65 years, and his twin sister, Charlotte Taylor. His body will be delivered to Indiana University School of Medicine, Dept. of Anatomy. Burial of cremated remains will follow later at Alexander Memorial Park. A celebration of his life will be a part of Sunday morning worship, on July 12, 2020 at 10:45 a.m. at First Avenue Presbyterian Church, 418 First Ave., Evansville.
