Mary Ruth (Gardner) Somers, 91, of Evansville, IN, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019, at Bethel Manor. She was born January 31, 1928, in Owensville, IN, the same birthday as her father and grandmother.
Mary was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Evansville. She graduated from Owensville High School in 1946 and continued her education at Lockyear Business College. She worked at St. Joe K-Mart for many years as a supervisor and returns clerk before retiring. Mary is admired for the strength and grace she displayed in raising her children while enjoying spending time with family and friends, especially the time spent with her granddaughters. She loved working puzzles, playing cards and making ceramics, on top of being a talented seamstress and great cook (the family loved her doll cakes and cheesecake).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Athol Bruce and Eulah (Knowles) Gardner and her two brothers, Robert and Alan Gardner.
Mary is survived by daughters Linda (Jerry) Jones and Nancy (Jeff) Knight; granddaughters, Sarah (Sam) Elder, Laura (Marcellus Jiles) Jones and great granddaughter, Ophelia Elder.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by her nephew, Robert Gardner, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Friday from
9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
