He was retired from ALCOA after 30 years, and owned Richard R. Short General Contractor. He loved to travel and believed in a good work ethic.
Richard is preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanne Short.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Violet L. Short; daughters, Tamara Mathis and Dawn Armes, both of Florida; step-sons, Melvin Gish (Vicki), Michael Gish, both of Evansville; brother, Don Short (JoAnn) of Greencastle, IN;sister-n-law, Hyacinth Hagensieker; 4 grandsons; 4 granddaughters; 4 nephews and 4 nieces.
Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, June 20, 2011 at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Thomas Wenig, with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 1:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the funeral home.
