He retired in 2010, at the age of 86, from Industrial Contractors after 41 years of service. He was also a very proud WWII Veteran, having served in the Army with the 29th Infantry Division, 175th Infantry Regiment, C Company, and seeing battle many times in Europe during his service. He was a life member of VFW Post #1114.
Russell’s wonderful smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He was a very wonderful man who loved life to the fullest, especially the family trips to the Smokey Mountains and to Kiawah Island, SC.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie; sister, Gertrude McFarland; and brothers, George Calvin Laymon and Tommy and Melvin Moore.
Russell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ida; daughter, Donna; beloved cat, Smokey; sister-in-law, Wilma Laymon; nieces and nephews; and countless extended family, friends and co-workers.
Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Fr. Steve Lintzenich, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the Deaconess Hospice Care Center for their wonderful care the last two weeks of his life. They would also like to thank Dr. Michael Harrison and Dr. Chip Walsh for their care of Russell over the years.
