Carl, 57, of Monroe, Washington passed away at home in the loving arms of his family. Stemming from Crohn’s disease, he battled cancer for 2 ½ years with strength and dignity. He was born in Oak Harbor, raised in Snohomish. There, he enjoyed little league, riding his bike, visiting the local candy store, bottle digging, coin collecting and wrestling on the Snohomish High School team. Carl earned an AA and Welding Technology degree at EVCC. In 1970, Carl met the love of his life, Linda, cruisin’ Colby. For 2 years he wandered until joining the U.S. Navy, where he served for 3 years as an airman, and received the Honor Man award. Reunited with Linda in the summer of ’73, they were married January 4, 1975 at the First Presbyterian Church in Everett. They settled in Monroe, where they raised 4 children and later welcomed 2 grandchildren. Carl was a jack of many trades. He owned Monroe Hardware Sporting Goods, along with father and brother-in-law Harry and Sandy, whom he admired. He provided for his family through the years owning Carl’s Pump Service, managing Highland Water Association, working at Alderwood Olds/Cad. and the Monroe School District. He retired from the City of Snohomish, in 2011, as Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator where he was an invaluable asset to the community. Carl enjoyed music, dancing, working in the yard, hunting, and rolling deep in his ’79 black Jeep. He had love for birds and the universe. He always found time to support his children by coaching, sponsoring, and attending their activities. What a thrill it was for him to see his son get married in Jan. One of his last wishes, a trip to Disneyland with his 2 granddaughters, was fulfilled a week before his passing. He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, strong work ethic, and love for his family and friends. We will feel his presence forever. Carl was preceded in death by his father Robert Chapman; birth father Ted Brodahl; uncle Carl Newman; mother-in-law Carol Stuchell; brother-in-law Harry “Sandy” Stuchell; niece Melissa Peterson; friend Dave Grover. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda; son Eric; daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren Carol, Matt, Ashlyn, and Airyann; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Renae; daughter Jenny; grandmother Florence Newman; mother Beverly Chapman; sister Barb Fogg (Dan); sister Sue Harris (Rod); beloved brother Norm (Loydeen); Aunt Louise Newman; cousins Howard Newman, and Carrie Bullinger (John); Aunt Nancy Joy (Bill); the Brodahl family; many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
