I never had the chance to meet Ernie's family. I met him in the Mid 80's at Contour Industries, I was 18 years old, Ernie was working in the toolcrib and had been there along while, As an 18 year old i learned so much from that man, 1st always no what you want from the toolcrib. Because if you didnt, he would let you know what he felt you wanted.. :-) I looked up to Ernie as a father figure, I sat and ate lunch with him everyday for years. Sitting on the floor behind that old dirty Cavity Mill.. Talking Sports, Talking Life.. Sometimes he would grow out that white beard. And all I could think of was Papa Smurf. But never was I going to say that to him. I always tell people about Ernie. Best tool grinder ever, Thank you Ernie for always listening to my young man problems. I wish every 18 year old Male had a person like Ernie Mapes to learn from.

Dianne, I am so sorry to hear of Ernie's passing.  I loved him so much, he was just always so much fun to be around.  Give my best to the whole family.  Miss all of you and you are in my thoughts and prayers.  Love You, Trish

I have know Ernie since he first came to Washington 50 years ago. We met at work and begain a friendship that lasted all these years. At our annual "Elk Camp' he proved over and over that he was the best poker player and filled his can with our money. We spent countless hours together driving the back roads looking for that special hunting spot.
To Diane and his family I am sorry for your loss. You had a special guy who loved and was loved by many

I remember a fishing trip with him where we were the only boat on that lake that caught fish. I think he could talk the fish to our hooks
I will truly miss my friend but have so many good memories

Dear Bea and all of Ernie's family, So very sorry for your loss. I only met Ernie once but what a charming guy. Bea you were blessed with a wonderful father and I hope those memories help ease the pain.

What a nice guy !, we will miss him here at Rosecreek Sr. Living.  It was a pleasure to know him, Dianne I know he will be missed, please call on us if you need anything.  He is fishing in a heavenly stream for sure.
