Ferdinand M. Weyers Feb. 6, 1928 – Feb. 19, 2018
Fred died of a heart attack on the way to the hospital with his son Dan holding his hand. He was born in St. Niklaas, Belgium, to Josef and Martha (Van Mieghem) Weyers. He served three years in the Belgium Navy on a mine sweeper after WWII before returning home to continue learning the trade of tile setting at his father’s business. In 1949 he came to America sponsored by his uncle and aunt, Frank and Martha Van Mieghem. He said it was the best decision he ever made. Fred easily found work for he was skilled at his trade. But in 1956 he went back to Belgium to marry his sweetheart, Fernande Keppens. They returned to America together and made their home in Everett, WA, living in the same home for over 55 years. Fred worked for Miller’s Interiors Co. for almost 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was good with his hands, known as a jack-of-all-trades. He also was athletic, enjoying many activities such as soccer, swimming, yoga, skiing, and biking. He took his family hunting, fishing, camping, and skiing for many years. Fred loved life and the simple things made him happy: good food, good beer, and doing crossword puzzles. Life was meant for special times with family and friends. He was part of the “Big Shots” cycling group that provided not only exercise but great comradery as well. He leaves behind his dear wife Fern of 61 years; four children Linda (John) Campbell, Susan (Brian) Karabach, Daniel (Cindy) Weyers, Michael (Margo) Weyers, nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren who all loved him dearly. He is also survived by his brother Roger (Esther) Weyers, sister-in-law Renee Moerloos, and many nieces and nephews in Belgium. Please join us Wednesday, March 14th, 2018, at 11:00am at St. Mary Magdalen in Everett, WA, for a service followed by a celebration of life reception. I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us God is thinking thoughts of peace towards us, to give us a future and a hope. In the days to come may you find comfort in that hope.
