She leaves behind her husband John, her sister Patricia and brother Alvin, her children Steve, Sharon & Michele, her grandchildren Megan, Melani, Jesse, Mia & Emi, and her great grandchildren Phoebe & Maxwell and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was born in Pensacola Florida on 9/1/1941 to parents Dottie and Howard Freeman. She had five brothers and one sister. She was a loving sister to all of her siblings and at times, out of necessity, had to play the role of mother as well. Her siblings have expressed gratitude for her loving care.
Helen met her husband John when he was renting the house next door while in the navy and stationed in Pensacola. She was literally the girl next door. They married young but their love was strong. They were happily married for over 60 years. Helen moved with John to his hometown in California. They raised their family there. They eventually retired in Washington State and have been living in Arlington near their son Steve for the last 7 years. Their daughters live nearby.
Helen was a southern woman at heart and loved spending time with both her immediate family and her family in the south. Helen loved Christmas! She celebrated Christmas with gusto and always made the holiday a special time for family and friends. She also loved to go shopping and to garden and bake, especially with her daughters and granddaughters.
Helen had a huge heart. She was the kind of person her son’s and daughter’s friends would call mom. She would happily open up her home to family members that needed one. She was the best hugger around. She was very loved and will be missed.
Helen’s family will have a private gathering to remember and celebrate her life and memory.
