To: Mrs. Bobbie J. Swims,

My prayers and condolences are with you as you bid a farewell for now to your loving sister, Mrs. Dorothy G. Pettiford. Your sister, Mamie “Love” was my classmate and I have worked with you for many years on services, community projects and the rearing of our children together. I can’t say, I know how you feel because I don’t. What I can say if, whenever you need a cheer, I’m here. Jeremiah 29:11 says, HE knows the plans HE has for you, plans to prosper and give you peace. I pray God giveth you peace that surpasses all understanding.

Prayfully submitted,

I miss Dorothy and will need to make some major adjustments to manage with her forever earthly absence from my life. We would talk mostly at night. She would always preference God in our conversations by saying"I love to hold conversations with God." I imagine the last conversation she had with God, a transfer was discussed and granted. Enjoy your new home and I will always cherish your loving memories.

Nana and Great-Grand Daughter Cassidy. (2008 vs 2019)
She loved her "greats" and made them feel special. Cassidy's favorite memory of her Nana is the amazing ham she made every thanksgiving! She also loved having long chats with her and listening to her "tea." She says "Nana has the best tea!, I'll miss that!"

My Wedding Day (2011). I am so thankful for this memory as the love we have for her truly radiates from this picture. Her smile, hugs and genuine love gave us so much joy!

Nana and Calvin Cage
My favorite memory of Nana is her amazing prayers over Christmas dinner. Every year she blessed our home and family with prayers for us to always stay together and asked God to always keep His watching eye over us!

Nana and The Cage Family (Thanksgiving 2019)
Our favorite part of the holiday is enjoying Nana and the family and having hours of great conversations at the dinner table! She cooked enough food to feed an army!

Candace and Nana (2019)
The final Thanksgiving Dinner with my Nana! Who would know this would be the last.

This lady meant more to me than most people know or could understand. She was my buddy, my tea partner and overall best critic. She truly embodied what it meant to be called “Nana”... her time here on earth may be done but she’s not done keeping her watchful eye over me and with that I am resolved!
