Gordon Warner Heidt was born to Charles Herbert Heidt of Canada and Ruth Bernice Cunningham Heidt of California in Sacramento, California on April 3rd, 1923. He had one younger sister, Elizabeth (Bettie).
He graduated from San Juan High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and served from Dec. 1942 through Feb. 1946. He served in the Army Air Forces Tropical Weather Unit stationed in Panama.
After the war, he worked on a rice farm in Richvale, CA with his cousins. He attended a Bible Conference in Missions Springs, CA where he met Helen JoAn Wikoff. They were married June 19, 1948. The children, Karen Marie, Melvin Glenn and Helen Jeanette, were born while they lived in Carmichael. They moved to their new home when Helen was a baby. Gordon lived there the rest of his life. Gordon worked as a civilian for McClellan Air Force Base from 1948-1981. He did hydraulic repair for airplanes and later became a crew chief. Their small farm included garden, orchard, berries and cattle. In the 1970’s they planted one acre of kiwifruit vines. Gordon was a member of the Blue Diamond Walnut Growers Association, Blue Anchor Fruit Growers Association, and the Fair Oaks Historical Society. He liked to hike and camp. He attended Carmichael Bible Church and several other churches later.
Gordon is survived by his sister Bettie Ewing, children Karen Helzerman (Ray), Melvin Heidt, Helen Hopkins Hubbard (Loren), four grandchildren: Sarah, Greg, Christine and Bryon and seven great grandchildren: Ashley, Courtney, Hayley, Adam, Elizabeth, Emma and Madalynn.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 30 at 9:00am with a funeral service following at 11:00am at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA.
