Ponti, Sydney P. Born July 25, 1928, in London England, Died November 28, 2019. After serving two years in the British Army and later the British Merchant Navy, where he visited six countries and circled the globe on one sailing, he emigrated to the United States and joined the U.S. Air Force in December 1951.
After Basic Training in San Antonio Texas, he was assigned to Lowry AFB in Denver CO where he met his future wife, Nan Dee, and they were married in March 1953. He became a U.S. citizen in Nov. 1953. While in the Air Force, they traveled extensively with assignments including England, Canada, Japan, a remote assignment to Thailand and eight states. While stationed at McClellan AFB Syd retired from the USAF in 1975 and Sacramento became home. They continued traveling, taking many land tours and at least 39 cruises.
Syd was preceded in death by his 20 year old son, Dennis, his mother, father, three sisters, two brothers and a granddaughter. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, his daughter, Patricia Dee Lane, adopted son, Sukree Ponti , brother, John F. Ponti as well as three grandsons, two great-grandsons, four great-granddaughters, and many nieces, nephews. Private service.
