Alfred Emanuel Emery was born in Laconia, New Hampshire, on November 16, 1926 of Mary DeMars Emery and Frank Emery. He was married to Theresa Guyer for 69 years and was widowed in 2018. “Al” was father to four children, twin daughters Kathleen and Kathryn (deceased), son Michael, and daughter Laurette, and “Pepere” to eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Al spent his career in the manufacturing industry and his sales career took him and Theresa to Southington, Connecticut where they raised their family, Austin, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia, before retiring to Florida. Alfred relocated to Leesburg, Virginia, in 2021.
At his own admission, he was a “hoodlum” in his teen years with his friends Armand and Gerard at his side. He enlisted in the Navy, was stationed in Pensacola, Florida, and served from 1944-1946. He was very proud of his “veteran” status and described his Honor Flight excursion from Florida to Washington, DC with other WWII era veterans in 2010 as a “highlight of my life.”
Besides his sales career, Al enjoyed woodworking and crafted furniture pieces as well as marquetry and other artwork, and wooden toys for his grandchildren. When he had to part with his woodworking tools and machines as he grew older, he found great pleasure in watching YouTube videos of master craftsmen from around the world.
He embraced his Roman Catholic faith and took comfort in falling asleep praying the rosary every night. Al never complained about the many hours he spent every week in the dialysis chair over eight and a half years.
