Dorothy Zelonis (Dotty) passed away on October 8, 2018 at her home at the age of 81 after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was also a survivor of two bouts of breast cancer. At her death she was surrounded by her family and friends. To Dorothy, family meant everything. She is the beloved wife of Daniel Zelonis for 55 years, and the mother of sons David (w/ Carol) and Donald (w/ wife Karen). She is the well-loved grandmother to Shelby (w/ Justin), Jill and Casey. She is the sister of departed Alice Lilly Wicks, Marie Claus and Walter Wicks (Sonny). She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She is especially missed by her Siamese cats Ginger and Milo. Dorothy was born on July 29, 1937 in East Meadow, Long Island, NY and graduated from Sewanhaka High School in 1955. Her parents were Walter Jacob Wicks and Julia Wicks (Nowisczski).
After working two years for the Long Island Lighting Company, she met her husband Dan and moved to Arlington, Virginia and later to Fairfax County in the community of Greenbriar. Dorothy’s generous heart, unfailing integrity, and warm smile and sparkling eyes endeared her to countless friends, each of whom she loved deeply. She really enjoyed meeting with her scrapbook and card making friends and was a member of the local Bunko group of wonderful women. We are certain she was greeted in Heaven by many relatives and friends.
Dorothy’s cremated remains will be placed in the Family Urn and a memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at the 10 AM mass on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 13807 Poplar Tree Road, Chantilly, VA. A private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Susan G. Komen Foundation or the National Pancreatic Foundation, P.O. Box 1848 Longmont, CO 80502. If you would like to, please include the memorial information with your donation.
