Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Frank and Florence (Porter) Jepson he was a lifelong area resident and a member of the First Congregational Church in Fairhaven.
Donald graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1947. He later went on to serve in the United States Army as a gunner in Germany 1951-1953 with the 109th Tank Brigade 28th Division. Mr. Jepson performed with drum bands, drum corps and symphonies. He taught percussion in the Fairhaven School District and was a percussion soloist on the same program as Robert Manhill of the Metropolitan Opera in Boston.
Mr. Jepson was a life member and former Post Commander of the American Legion Post 166 and a 66 year Master Mason at the George H. Taber Lodge in Fairhaven. He worked for Titleist and owned Jepson Liquors. Donald enjoyed volunteering at the Fairhaven Animal Shelter. He also worked at Southcoast Home Care as a driver and technician for home infusion, Home Care and Hospice and he delivered medication and equipment to patients and he received the President Award in 1999. He thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet and cheer up the patients he delivered medications to while working for Southcoast. Donald drove seniors to appointments for the Council on Aging until he was 90.
The family would like to thank Kevin J. Moran, the significant other of Lynne Johnson, who took such good care of Donald of the last five months prior to his hospital visit and they became good buddies. Donald was affectionately known by “Unc” to Lynne, Laurie, and Scott.
Most people described Donald was “kind and nice”. He loved his family, animals, and meeting new people. He stayed very active and was so proud of every birthday and passed just 8 days before his 92nd. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by a brother, Russell W. Jepson of Taunton; sisters-in-law, Anne W. Bernard of Mattapoisett, Theresa Butts of Naples, FL, Muriel Jenson of Astoria, OR, Eleanor Charbonneau of Acushnet, Leila Charbonneau of New Bedford, Norma Charbonneau of New Bedford, and Rachel Charbonneau of Acushnet; brother-in-law, David Charbonneau of RI; many nieces and nephews including, Lynne A. Johnson of Wareham, Laurie J. Connolly of Rochester, Angela Jepson of Somerset, Jeannette Braga of Fairhaven, Jane and Henry Fortin of NH, Blake Martin of Naples, FL, Alan Charbonneau of Paris, France, Dan Charbonneau of Seattle, WA; great nieces and nephews-too many to name; He was the uncle of the late Scott H. Jepson the former Fire Chief of Somerset, MA; brother-in-law of the late Shirley Charbonneau; and brother-in-law of the late, Wilfred, Gerard, Maurice, Norman, Butch, Robert, Rene, and Matthew Charbonneau.
His visitation will be Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven, MA 02719. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairhaven Animal Shelter, 200 Bridge St., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
