Born in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard, she was the daughter of the late Jiles Amancio and Wilhelmina (Moniz) Amancio. She worked at Hastings Junior High School in Fairhaven for 17 years until her retirement.
Dorothy was an avid Bingo player and loved stopping for yard sales.
Survivors include: daughter, JoAnn Scherzinger and husband Michael of OH; daughter, Autumn Hill and husband Daryl of WV; son, Donald Garcia and wife Maureen of FL; sister, Mildred Dias of Fairhaven.
Grandchildren include: Sean Perry, Matthew Perry, Dustin Scherzinger, and Rebekka Scherzinger - all of OH; Debra O'Leary of Berkley; Marguerite Sargelis of CT; Christy Willumson of TN, Deanna Sites, Chelsea Moore, and Jesse Hill - all of WV
Great grandchildren include: Daniel O'Leary, Cullen O'Leary, Hannah O'Leary, Timothy O'Leary, Jarred Arsenault - all of MA and Braden and Sarah Arsenault, Meghan Arsenault - all of CT; and Stephanie (Ashley) Garcia of TN. Great great grandchild: Riley O'Leary.
She was the mother of the late Carol A Mallinson and the late Steven A Garcia.
She was also the grandmother of the late Scott Mallinson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at 309 Waverly Oaks Rd in Waltham, MA, 02452, or the family requests you plant a tree in her memory. Her visitations will be held, Tuesday, 9/11/2018, from 4-8pm at the Waring Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven, MA with a memorial service at 7:30pm.
