Raymond J. Davis

Raymond J. Davis, 89, of Fairview Heights, Illinois, born August 26, 1923 in New Port, Arkansas, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. Mr. Davis was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 5691 in Collinsville, Illinois, VFW Post 8677, Fairview Heights, Illinois, and was a member 10 o’clock club. Raymond was an accomplished golfer and bowler. He was preceded in death by his parents; Otto and Nellie, nee Hawkins, Davis, a brother, Robert Davis, two sisters; Opal Robinson and Peggy Gettys. Surviving is his sister, Mazie Davis of Fairview Heights, Illinois, two nieces; Rene McKee of Collinsville, Illinois and Cheryl Gettys of Pacific, Missouri, a nephew, Clay (Michelle) Gettys, Collinsville, Illinois, other relatives and friends. Memorials are appreciated to the National League of POW/MIA Families. Although I didn't know him personally, his niece Rene' Gettys kept me up to date with all of his silly quirks. I will miss her stories which will now be fond memories.

Nothing but kind words and fond memories of Ray who had befriended our parents, Marie and Joe Schilling; Joe was also a proud member of the VFW 10 o'clock club and always spoke highly of Ray. We're sure Ray be missed by all his family and friends. God bless him.
