Joan Maryann Smith, age 76, passed away peacefully May 3, 2020 in her home with family. She was born July 27, 1943 in Dothan, Alabama to Howard and Anna Brooks. She spent her first year at Fort Rucker with her mother while her father fought in World War II. After the war, she moved back with her parents and was raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Joan was the first grandchild in both the Brooks (Howard Sr., and Flora) and the Funderlich (Andrew and Mary) Families. She was very close with both families including her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. After graduating from Mount Alvernia High School she met and married her love, Randall Smith in July of 1964 who proceeded her in death in 2009. Joan and Randall moved to Cleveland, OH in 1965 and made this area their home. Joan was a homemaker and dedicated her life to love, serve and support the well-being of her family.
Joan is survived by her brother, Richard Brooks; her daughter, Sandra Smith, and her three sons Randy Smith, Michael Smith, and Keith (Sheri) Smith; grandchildren, Ashley Knitter, Brad Knitter, Kyle Smith, Anna Smith, and Abby Smith; and nieces Jennifer and Rebecca. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.
Due to COVID 19 protocols, Joan’s life will be celebrated privately on May 8, 2020 and her final resting place will be at Lakewood Cemetery, alongside her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the March of Dimes, a cause that was close to Joan’s heart.
